Learning for Life
To Embrace and Empower Learners to Flourish
At Marton School, we focus on developing STAR Learners: STRIVE, TEAM, AROHA and RESPECT.
We develop in learners a disposition to STRIVE, not just academically, but physically, culturally, socially and emotionally as well. "I will do my best."
We encourage them to be part of our TEAM by actively contributing, participating and showing leadership in school-life. "Together Everyone Achieves More"
We model and encourage everyone in our school community to show AROHA.
"I care for myself, others and the environment"
We value RESPECT, being able to self-manage and show integrity.
"I do the right thing"
Our school values respecting people as individuals and celebrating the uniqueness of all cultures and beliefs. As a school with over 10 different cultures, this is important to us.
As an enviroschool we have a major focus on guarding and protecting the environment, we are the kaitiaki of our world.
We want to empower our children to be responsible for their learning and their behaviour, becoming positive members of our school and wider community.
The blue and red colours are not only the colours from the New Zealand flag they are also Marton School colours.
Marton School is a full primary and this part of the logo shows 8 steps which represent the 8 years children spend in primary school.
The steps go upwards to show progression in learning as children get older.
The 8 steps also represent the 8 learning areas of the NZ Curriculum.
The large koru represents Marton School’s belief that we are all ‘Life Long Learners’.
Marton School children start at the centre and just like the fern frond, as they grow older, the fern frond opens out to bigger and brighter opportunities.
Learning is a pathway to the future.
The six small koru within the larger one represent aspects of Marton School childrens' development and well-being as they become ‘life long learners’

All the elements of the logo form a circle. A circle has no ending which represents our learning which is ongoing and will never end.
The logo represents what Marton School is all about, our values, our learning and our desire to be lifelong learners and make a positive contribution to New Zealand.
Marton School has its roots back to 1825 when a one-roomed shack was opened as a schoolroom. In 1866 a two roomed building was erected especially for the purpose and official recognition was given. Until 1901, when it became a District High School, the school consisted of a Primary Department with a separate Secondary Department.
The present site in Hereford Street was purchased in 1910 and the school was officially opened by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W.F. Massey, in 1913. The District High School remained until 1958 when the Secondary Department moved to its present site in Bredins Line. In 1971 Rangitikei Intermediate opened using the buildings and grounds of the Hereford Street site. Marton School has remained a contributing school until the review. The roll of the school reached its peak in the late 1960's with over 700 pupils.
